As the Archive has no comprehensive searchable catalogue it is necessary to make an enquiry using the enquiry form ; enquiries are only accepted on the enquiry form and not by email. You may however email us to make general enquiries regarding the scope of material held. Use the enquiry form to tell us about yourself or organisation you represent, about the subject you are interested in and what in particular you wish to find or research within the Archive. Once received, we will use our extensive knowledge of the collections to assess if we can assist you with your enquiry. We are based at Rochford outside Southend on Sea, so we do not wish you a wasted trip to come and visit us if we only have a small quantity of useful material or possibly nothing new to you. If we can help with your enquiry we will normally endeavour to provide you with scanned copies of suitable material which will be sent to you by email via a link, where you can access and download material.
Should there be a large quantity of material available or the nature of your enquiry suggests that a personal visit would be a more effective means of researching, then we will invite you to visit the Archive on one of the Saturdays we are open, as the Archive is open by appointment only. We do not provide a research service, if your enquiry is to broad or vague, we will advise you how to focus your efforts more effectively or you may carry out your own research at the Archive in person. We love to receive visitors, so if you are invited to visit the Archive you will receive a warm welcome. Full details of our opening dates (normally Saturdays once a month) and how to get to us by road or public transport will be provided. There is ample free parking on site. There are toilets, a kitchen and breakout area, but it is suggested you bring a lunch with you. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge. Please note that the Archive is on the first floor and has no lift.
All reproduction is subject to copyright – images are supplied for personal and research purposes only and may not be suitable for onward distribution or publication. If you want to reproduce anything provided from the Archive you must request permission from us, using the publication request form, available on request. You may also need to clear permission with the rights holder of the material for copyright works and we can provide guidance on this. When reproducing images from the archive (subject to permission) you should credit BY PERMISSION OF THE CNEMA THEATRE ASSOCATION ARCHIVE. Commercial fees for reproduction of images for printed publications, film, TV and other commercial outlets of any kind will be subject to negotiation.
The Archive receives no external funding and therefore its future depends upon its members subscriptions, donations and what can be raised through (very reasonable) changes levied for those using the Archive. All funds raised through charging for material is ploughed back into the Archive to help maintain and improve the collection for future generations.
